Payment Processing

How listing fees are handled and what to know about boat purchase payments

BoatDockr processes one type of payment on your behalf: the $10/month listing subscription fee, charged securely through Stripe. BoatDockr does not process or handle payments between buyers and sellers — all boat purchase transactions happen directly between the two parties.

Boat Purchase Payments — Between Buyers & Sellers

Important: BoatDockr does not process, hold, or facilitate the actual sale of boats. When a buyer and seller agree on a price, they handle payment entirely between themselves. BoatDockr is a listing platform only.

For the actual boat transaction, here are the methods commonly used and generally recommended by the industry:

Escrow Services (Recommended for large purchases)

A neutral third party holds the funds until the buyer inspects the boat and both parties are satisfied. Protects both sides from fraud.

Bank Wire Transfer

Direct bank-to-bank transfer. Verify the seller's identity and bank details carefully before wiring any funds.

Marine Financing

Specialised boat loans are available through marine lenders. Many buyers finance larger purchases this way.

Cash / Cashier's Cheque

Common for smaller purchases. Always meet in a safe, public place and verify any cashier's cheque with the issuing bank before signing over the boat.

Payment Safety Tips

Do ✅

  • Inspect the boat in person before paying

Don't ❌

  • Wire money to someone you haven't verified
  • Pay via gift cards or cryptocurrency
  • Pay a deposit before seeing the boat
